Adidas designed Benfica's 2023-24 away shirt around the club's 120th anniversary and worldwide following. Five vertical stripes in different colours cross the black body, representing the five continents and the diversity of Benfica's supporters. White Adidas shoulder stripes, the club crest and Emirates sponsor provide sharp contrast, creating an anniversary design with a clearly explained global theme.

Benfica entered the season as Portuguese champions and finished second in the Primeira Liga. Their Champions League group campaign led to a place in the Europa League, where they defeated Toulouse and Rangers before meeting Marseille in the quarter-finals. The tie finished level at 2-2 on aggregate, with the French side advancing on penalties at the Stade Velodrome.
