Adidas produced this Japan home shirt for the 2013-15 international period. The blue base carries a tonal sunburst graphic that spreads from the crest area, while white shoulder stripes provide contrast. A vivid coral brushstroke runs across the upper back and continues onto the sleeves, with matching accents at the cuffs. Shinji Kagawa's name and number 10 complete the reverse, linking Japan's central creative player with the design used around the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Japan qualified for the 2014 World Cup as Asian champions but collected one point in a difficult group containing Ivory Coast, Greece and Colombia. Kagawa appeared in all three group matches. The same shirt period also covered the 2015 AFC Asian Cup, where Japan won all three group games without conceding. Their title defence ended in the quarter-finals after a 1-1 draw with the United Arab Emirates and a penalty shoot-out defeat.
